Cool [H] Tell Me What You Think About This Setup!
Reply Quote

I am going to be buying a new skateboard and am trying to put together the best configuration. I skate exclusively in parks. I currently skate an Alva Beefy Pom w/ Independents/ 1/4" risers and Ghandi Wheels. Its a great board but I think the size and more the weight make alot of coping work harder then it has to be. I am thinking of keeping it more as a carver and buying something I can get more aggresive on for "Vert Work"

Right now I'm looking at;

Flood Kontrol Kujo Deck

Independent Trucks (  w/o risers )

Alva Sun Beam Wheels (54mm/ 101 Duro)

Rock n Ron Ceramics

Z-Flex Sticky Rails

I'm considering having it built by SoCal Skates

Being 45 years old, I am only now learning to ollie "new school". The Alva sits up high and is like  lifting a log. I think this lower set up will be easier, but skate a fairly loose truck and don't want wheel bite.

I would appreciate anyones feedback.

Thanks

Get bigger wheels for that dog! It's way too big for 54mm's. Get some Powell Bowl Bombers or anything over 59mm.

Get the new 60mm Chris Miller Bones SPF wheels.

Fastest park wheel out there IMO.

1/8 riser.

yeah the bigger wheels do affect getting on the coping a little bit, but it makes it a lot easier to get your speed up. Us old guys gotta save our juice for when it counts. I ride Powell Bowl Bombers on the ditch stick and it rides fine. For my smaller setup (8.75x33) I rock some 59mm Powells.

Also hardness is a factor for terrain. If your riding masonite I wouldnt go harder than 95, nice smooth crete needs 99 or higher. Rougher crete 90's.

I have transitioned down to 56mm Powell Oval Dragons on my bigger Ditch Stick & totally dig them on all terrains. (But this will be my ditch deck)... tonight I am setting up my Kujo with 56mm wheels, Rockin' Ron Steel bearings, Trackers & 1/8" risers for my park deck.

I like the width & size of the Oval Dragons but would prefer them in a 95a.

Thanks for all the good feedback! I screwed up on the wheel size, the Alva Sunbeam wheels are 56mm, not 54mm. Duro was correct at 101.

The Bones SPF wheels were recommended to me other places as well. Any other ideas welcome!
